Even the most optimistic person in the city of Liverpool, wouldn’t have expected this scenario at Anfield tonight, Liverpool FC stunning their local rivals with 4 goals (Gerrard, Sturridge 2, Luis Suarez).
The lack of options for Everton’s coach Roberto Martinez played a huge role in tonight’s defeat starting with inexperienced John Stones and Alvarez against attackers like Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge didn’t help the spaniard securing his side from receiving goals
From his side, Brendan Rodgers went into the game with his best fit players holding an attacking formation with a shaky defense that could have cost him much if Everton had a better squad options, especially when Ross Barkley who is yet to recover from his injury managed to threaten Mignolet’s goal early in the first half. Few minutes before a positioning mistake from his defense that led to the first goal of the evening after a stunning header from Liverpool’s captain Steven Gerrard, 12 minutes later Daniel Sturridge benefitted from an another defensive mistake that led to the second goal 2 minutes exactly before the same mistake occurs again setting Sturridge face to face against The keeper who was helpless letting the englishman scoring the third goal and his second of the game in a classy way.
This was the result of the first half.
On the beginning of the second half, Roberto Martinez decided to make a tactical change sending the 32 years old Leon Osman into the field hoping to change something, right after 5 minutes another mistake led into handing Luis Suarez the ball in the middle of the pitch, the Uruguayan striker would never fail to benefit from such mistakes, which led to the 4th goal of the evening and Suarez’s 23 goal of the season.
Everyone then thought that the game would end in a similar way to the Tottenham’s Hotspurs game at Hart Lane that ended with a total collapse of the Spurs players and later caused Villas Boas his post (FT 0-5). Such scenario could’ve happened even Liverpool were given a Penalty Kick that was harshly wasted by Sturridge, it was a surprise as it’s known that penalties at Liverpool are usually either played by Their captain or Suarez. However Sturridge decided to put it over the bar and then get substituted later with Victor Moses.
The game then lost its sense of competition, Everton were helpless and Liverpool was all satisfied with the clear 4 points difference ahead of their rivals awaiting the Clash on Wednesday when Manchester City goes on a visit to London to face The spurs.
